Over 200k indigent seniors receive social pension allowance from DSWD

Over 290,000 indigent senior citizens have received their P1,500 cash allowance for the third quarter of 2022 under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)'s Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPISC).

In a report by DSWD, 284,700 indigent seniors from the Davao region received their cash assistance through the DSWD Field Office XI, Municipal/City Social Welfare and Development Offices (C/MSWDO), and the local government units (LGUs) of the region.

Meanwhile, 4,999 seniors under the DSWD Field Office I, 1,713 from Merida, Leyte, and 709 from San Jose del Monte in Bulacan have also received cash aid.

Under SPISC, senior citizens who are "frail, sickly or with disability" will receive cash assistance worth P500 monthly to help them with their medical and other expenses.

This was spearheaded in 2011 through the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 and is being implemented nationwide by the DSWD in partnership with its 17 field offices and LGUs.

The C/MSWDO and the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs serve as the key partners of the department for the program's implementation.
