Video of students watching ‘Maria Clara At Ibarra’ goes viral

The idiot box as educational tool? Why not?

Making it big on social media recently is a video of students watching an episode of GMA’s “Maria Clara At Ibarra.”

According to reports, it was taken at Tibag Elementary School in Tarlac City.

Supposedly, the students were watching the show on their phones during recess.

When their teacher identified as Charlaine Alyssa Sese found out, she decided to let them watch it on the classroom’s TV screen instead.

She would go on to take a video of the class, posting the same on social media.

It has since garnered more than 17,000 likes.

When sought for a comment, Charlaine explained, “Pinagbigyan ko po silang manood kasi may mga batang walang TV sa bahay.”

Note “Maria Clara At Ibarra” is about a student being magically transported right into the pages of Jose Rizal’s “Noli Me Tangere.”

Fun and entertaining, it is also quite informative as it allows today’s youth a glimpse of the country’s past.

Charlaine was surprised with the children’s keen interest on the show.

She related, “Although wala pa silang ‘Noli Me Tangere,’ kahit papano nagkaka-idea na sila sa Noli. Ang dami nila tanong about sa past. Nakakatuwa lang po kasi seryoso silang nanonood talagang interested sila kaya vinideo ko.”
