A House leader has pinpointed President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s fulfilled promise of no more lockdowns as the "most important achievement" of the administration’s first 100 days.
According to Surigao del Sur 2nd district Rep. Johnny Pimentel, the Covid-19 pandemic did a number on the Philippine economy, and that the government continues to mitigate the situation.
"I believe his most important acheivement is he fulfilled his promise that there will be no more lockdown during his term," Pimentel, a member of the powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) in the House of Representatives, said Friday, Oct. 7.
"This is a very important step to revive our economy and the several industries that have been affected by the pandemic," noted the solon, who was also recently named deputy secretary general of erstwhile ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
Marcos, who won the presidency via historic majority mandate during the May 2022 polls, only assumed the seat in Malacañang last June 30.
"The President is on the right track. I believe that during his term, we will experience unprecedented growth to our economy," Pimentel said.
The casting aside of the era of lockdowns was also cited by House Speaker Martin Romualdez in a statement Friday, which incidentally was Marcos's 100th day in office.
Romualdez said the government’s decision to continue reopening the economy while making sure that Covid-19 does not spread and ensuring the strengthen and readiness of the health care system has resulted in more mobility, more economic activities, more jobs, and increased income for the people.
"He (Marcos) encouraged Filipinos to get their booster shots so the nation could soon achieve herd immunity against novel coronavirus, which he said would lead to the full opening of the economy," read the Speaker's statement.
