DOLE Regional Office 6-Negros Occidental Field Office (DOLE RO 6-NOFO) chief Mary Agnes N. Capigon said they have started handing out rice to the laborers that were ravaged by flooding in 2021.

The total amount of rice assistance is valued at P2.3 million

Among the areas covered in the social amelioration program were those places devastated by flooding and weather disturbances in 2021, which include the cities of Talisay, Silay, Victorias, and Cadiz, as well as the municipalities of E.B. Magalona and Manapla.

So far, officers of DOLE RO6-NOFO have already distributed 420 sacks in Cadiz City; 193 sacks in Talisay City; 223 sacks in Manapla; 187 sacks in Silay City; and 154 sacks in E.B. Magalona.

Meanwhile, the distribution of the remaining sacks of rice was ongoing in other parts of the province.

The DOLE RO6 clarified that the beneficiaries are legitimate sugarcane field workers and had not availed of any of the DOLE's emergency employment and livelihood program.

The project was funded under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP), Socio-Economic Projects Fund, and Calamity Assistance Fund (CAF).
