CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Police have rescued a kidnapped Chinese woman in Barangay Alangilan, Batangas City.
Police Regional Office 4-A director Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the victim, a native of Shanghai, China, was allegedly abducted by an unidentified foreign national in Angeles City at around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17.
She was taken and detained in a house for 20 days some 200 kilometers away in Barangay Alangilan.
The victim managed to escape and was rescued by the Batangas City police.
The Philippine National Police-Anti-Kidnapping Group said the victim was kidnapped in exchange for $200,000 (about P12 million) ransom.
Nartatez lauded the Batangas City police for her successful rescue.
“I commend the operatives of Batangas City police for saving the victim. Your timely response foiled a yet another kidnapping incident involving Chinese nationals. Such atrocities should not proliferate in our region. We should strengthen our intelligence efforts and maintain police presence in the streets as deterrent to possible kidnapping and other crimes," Nartatez said.
He ordered the Anti-Kidnapping Group 4-A and the PRO-4-A to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident and identify the perpetrators.
"I want immediate progress in this case and also I want these kidnappers to be arrested. We cannot tolerate these criminals who victimized innocent civilians for their own gain,” Nartatez added.
