Bureau of Immigration (BI) jail guards foiled an attempt to sneak methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) to a Korean detainee at a detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City.

Adolfo Marasigan, officer-in-charge of the BI’s warden facility, said custodial guards intercepted a package containing four grams of shabu for 41-year-old Yang Heejun.

The illegal substance was wrapped in plastic inside a kimchi container, together with other food items.

“Our agents became suspicious when Yang insisted in getting immediately the package, without undergoing the usual inspection procedure,” said Marasigan.

Immigration Commissioner Norman G. Tansingco said Yang was arrested last April 18 in Angeles City, Pampanga due to an arrest warrant issued by a court in Seoul, South Korea for stealing more than 14 million won from a compatriot.

The BI chief said the undesirable alien will be eventually deported.

He said, however, that the Korean will be sent to jail first if the court finds him guilty of possessing illegal drugs.
