Alyssa Valdez grateful to be back after bout with dengue

Alyssa Valdez is thrilled to be back in action for Creamline in its grand slam bid after missing two international competitions due to dengue two months ago.

The veteran spiker was ruled out of the official roster of the Cool Smashers in the Asian Volleyball Confederation Cup for Women and the ASEAN Grand Prix after falling ill to the disease which had her hospitalized due to complications.

Now recovered and ready to get into the mix in the upcoming Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference which kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 8, Valdez rejoined the training in full swing two weeks ago along with Turkish import Yeliz Basa.

“I’m just really grateful to be back on the court with these girls. Not having played with the girls, actually I was very very sad kasi nga we were really looking forward to representing the country,” said Valdez during the league’s media conference on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

The Creamline-PH managed to place sixth in the AVC while falling at the back of the grid in its Thailand stint.

Valdez, who’s expected to display her veteran form in the league, found it difficult to adjust after missing two months of training and game exposure.

“But grabe sa training ang hirap. Kasi lahat sila nagkaroon ng exposure, humahabol lang talaga ako. Our coaching staff has been doing a really good job para makaabot ako. I’m just really listening to them. I’m excited to contribute kung anong way man sa team this coming conference. It’s good to be back,” Valdez added.

Creamline will make its first taste of action in the league against PLDT on Oct. 13 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
