Speaker Martin vows to be a good listener to House workers
His business card might read "House Speaker", but Martin Romualdez also vows to be a good listener to his fellow workers at Batasang Pambansa Complex.

“We have great plans for you, our dear House employees, and we are determined to look after your welfare," Romualdez said in his speech Thursday, Oct. 6 during the kickoff of HRep Month.
"I will not make promises but one thing is sure: You will have a listening Speaker, who is willing to hear you out with regard to employees’ issues and concerns,” Romualdez told HRep employees.
HRep is shorthand for House of Representatives. Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City is the home of the House of Representatives.
This year, the House is celebrating its 115th anniversary.
Romualdez also expressed full support to a proposal by House senior Deputy Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos that would enhance the skills of HRep workers.
“I am concerned not only in your health and physical well-being. I also wish to ensure that advancement of careers in the House of Representatives will be based on merits,” he said.
"We have to advance the development of existing legislative skills and capabilities of members, officials, secretariat and congressional staff of the House," noted the Leyte 1st district representative.
The kickoff ceremony was followed by games for employees such as banner making, MX HRep, and a cheering competition.
A parade of participating employees led by the MMDA Drum and Bugle Corps also took place.
“To address the holistic wellness and development needs of our people, we have a number of sports, health and wellness activities lined up, not only for our anniversary but also in the days and months to come,” Romualdez said
