The wife of former Cabinet secretary and now Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Karlo Nograles has been appointed as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB).
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco said Maria Margarita “Marga” Montemayor Nograles took office on Tuesday, Sept. 4, after she was appointed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and elected as COO by the TPB Board of Directors in accordance with the Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCC) Governance Act of 2011 and the Tourism Act of 2009.
“I have personally known our new Tourism Promotions Board, COO Marga Nograles, as someone who has consistently championed the promotion of Philippine culture and the Filipino identity, as tacitly manifested in her body of work,” said Frasco.
TPB is an attached agency of the Department of Tourism (DOT) tasked with advancing the programs and policy coordination of the department.
The TPB is in charge to formulate and implement integrated domestic and international promotions and marketing programs for the DOT.
“I am optimistic that COO Nograles, with her talent for innovation, and experience in promoting the works of our local artists and artisans, will contribute greatly to the promotion of the Filipino brand globally, which is the direction we are taking to usher the Philippines into taking a primary tourism position worldwide” Frasco uttered.
Nograles is a Davao-based fashion designer and an alumnus of the Ateneo de Davao University.
She owned the Kaayo Modern Mindanao, a clothing line promoting traditional weaves and patches, a product of Mindanao tribes.
