Attended by around 4,000 teachers, this year’s in-person celebration of #NTD2022 and #WTD2022 is the first in two years since the global pandemic brought about by Covid-19 was declared.
Aside from Duterte, key officials of DepED from the Central Office to the regional and schools division offices also attended the event. Local government officials as well as DepED’s partners from private and non-government organizations also extended their greetings to teachers and expressed their support for Filipino teachers.
First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, a teacher herself, served as the Guest of Honor for the celebration of #NationalTeachersDay2022 and #WorldTeachersDay2022. She also delivered an inspirational message to her fellow teachers nationwide.
“The country needs you,” Araneta-Marcos told the teachers as praised their efforts in ensuring the delivery of quality education to many Filipinos despite the “many challenges” brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“You have remained steadfast in mentoring the learners, you have built their foundation, and honed their skills. We are all grateful to you,” she added.
Teaching as a ‘noble profession’
Araneta-Marcos, who has been teaching for over 25 years, recognized teachers' service, dedication, sacrifices, and commitment to fulfill their duty.
“They say that teaching is noble profession and I believe in that,” Araneta-Marcos said as she pointed out what it takes to be a good teacher.
“You have to be organized and think carefully of ways and means to make your subject more interesting for your students. You also need to be patient... you have to humble enough,” she added. The First Lady, on behalf of her husband Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., assured the teachers that the current administration would continue to look after their welfare.
“To all the teachers out there, please know that we all recognize your hard work and all the sacrifices that you have made to make the art of learning possible,” she said.
Araneta-Marcos also congratulated DepEd which is very “ably-led” by Duterte for the provisions of teacher welfare benefits including employee wellness and interventions --- among others.
As a parting message, Araneta-Marcos enjoined teachers to continue their “unwavering service and commitment” to the Filipino youth. “Remember to always keep the faith and hold your head up high,” she added.
With the theme, “Gurong Pilipino, Dangal ng Sambayanang Pilipino (Filipino Teachers, Pride of the Filipino Nation),” the celebration of the #NTD2022 and #WTD2022 also served as a culminating activity for the #NationalTeachersMonth2022 celebration which started on Sept. 5.
