Residents of island village in Lucena City finally have own water facility after decades of gov't neglect
LUCENA CITY – Residents of Valentin, an island sitio in Ibabang Iyam in this city, used to cross the sea using an improvised floating drum towed by a boat just to fetch water in another barangay.

It’s because for several decades they had been without any source of clean, potable water in their place.
Now, the Valiente folks no longer have to cross the sea following the construction of a solar-powered water system facility in their place.
About 70 households had forwarded their collective request to Alona Partylist Representative Anna V. Suarez, House Deputy Majority Leader, and Quezon 2nd District Representative David Suarez for the water system.
The request was granted and now they have their own source of clean water.
Deputy Majority Leader Suarez said that the water supply facility is solar-powered so that the residents will no longer have to spend on electricity.
The water system is 90 percent complete, with all the pipelines and faucet already installed, while an elevated water reservoir is still being constructed. The total cost of the project is P5 million.
The said project was implemented by Quezon 2nd District Department of Public Works and highways (DPWH) under Convergence and Special Support Program: Public Water Supply (level II and III) Construction of Potable Water Supply System.
