NPC calls for justice for slain radio commentator


The National Press Club of the Philippines (NPC) issued a statement on Tuesday, Oct. 4, condemning the killing of Percival Mabasa, also known as Percy Lapid, in Las Piñas City on Monday night .

NPC president Lydia Bueno said the officers and members of the organization are one in condemning Mabasa's killing .

The NPC has joined other media organizations in calling for justice for Mabasa who was brazenly killed around 8:30 p.m. along Aria St., Sta. Cecilia Village, Las Piñas City on Monday.

The NPC said it is the right of every media personality to express his/her opinion, point of view, and disclose what is happening around the community or the country.

"Nobody has the right to silence a media personality without due process," she added.

She said the family of Mabasa believes that his killing must have something to do with his work as a fearless radio commentator.

Lapid’s family also urged the authorities "to bring to justice the cowardly assassins."

The Las Piñas police said Mabasa was on his way home on board his black vehicle with plate number NGS 8294 when he was shot by an unidentified suspect on board a motorcycle

Prior to the shooting, police said the rear portion of Mabasa's vehicle was bumped by a white Toyota Fortuner. The gunman fired at the victim at this juncture from his motorcycle and fled.
