Las Piñas cops given 24 hours to solve killing of Percy Lapid


The chief of police of Las Piñas City was given 24 hours to solve the killing of veteran broadcaster Percival Mabasa who was gunned down on Monday night, Oct. 3.

Police Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), assured the public of swift justice to the Mabasa and his family.

"I have given the investigator and the chief of police Police Colonel Jaime Santos, 24 hours to shed light on the matter and solve the case. We assure to provide an update as soon as available," said Estomo.

Mabasa, popularly known as Percy Lapid, was a hard-hitting broadcast journalist of dwBL.

He was gunned down at around 8:30 p.m. at the gate of BF Resort Village in Talon Dos, Las Piñas.

"I am deeply saddened and we condemn this crime resulting in the death of Percival Mabasa. Presently, a thorough investigation is underway. Looking on all possibilities, we are conducting coordination with the officers of village and a Special Investigation Task Force was also created by Las Piñas City Station," said Estomo in a statement.

Estomo said they will also create its own task force to look into the case that will be named SITG (Special Investigation Task Force) Lapid with members from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region (CIDG) and the Intelligence Group of the Philippine National Police.

"The NCRPO acknowledges the indispensable part of our media friends in fair, truthful and timely dissemination of information to multitudes of audience. We will update the public in any smallest detail as to the development of the investigation," said Estomo.

"We guarantee to bring swift justice to the victim and his family," he added.
