15 Manokan stalls in Bacolod allowed to operate after compromise agreement

BACOLOD CITY - The city government here has allowed the 15 tenants of Manokan Country with delinquent accounts to open several hours after they were shut down on Monday, Oct. 3.

This development came after the tenants with unsettled accounts and the City Treasurer’s Office have reached a compromise agreement.

Atty. Carlos Romeo Ting, Jr., head of City Legal Office (CLO), said the tenants have initially paid portion of their arrears.

They probably stated in their agreement how they would pay their remaining balance to the local government, Ting said.

The closure of the stalls was implemented by the CLO on Monday, Oct. 3, after these tenants failed to settle their accounts by the end of September.

The Manokan Country, an attraction here which has a row of restaurants selling the famous chicken inasal, is occupied by 18 tenants.

Of the 18 tenants, only three have fully paid their arrears, while 15 others have unpaid accounts amounting to P7.1 million.

“We have no choice, but to implement the order,” Ting said.

But, with the resumption of their business operations, Ting urged the owners to get business permits so that they can be subjected to sanitary inspection every year.

He said that these stalls have no permits for more than 10 years already.
