Sermonia back as PNP's number 2 man but...

Police Lt. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia was reappointed as the number two man of the Philippine National Police (PNP) weeks after he was booted out of the same post and designated as an area commander in the Visayas.

But in the order that designated him again as the PNP Deputy Chief for Administration, it stated that it will be on a temporary basis until such time that a new PNP number two man is named.

“Police Lieutenant General Rhodel Orden Sermonia, in addition to his duties and responsibilities, is designated as Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Deputy Chief of PNP for Administration effective October 2, 2022. Such designation shall only take effect until the designation of the new TDCA," the order read, dated Sept. 30, read.

Sermonia was among the casualties in the major revamp ordered by PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin when he assumed the top police post in August.

From the PNP's number two man, he was named as the commander of the PNP Area Police Command-Visayas.

The PNP's Officer-in-Charge then, Police Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr., was also booted out of his post and was named as the Area Police Command- Western Mindanao.

The two are among the top contenders as President Bongbong Marcos Jr.'s first Chief PNP.

Sermonia's designation as officer-in-charge of the Deputy Chief for Administration came after the retirement of Police Lt. Gen. Jose Chiquito Malayo.

Sermonia, however, remains as APC-Visayas commander.
