BACOLOD CITY -- At least 10,000 informal settlers here will soon have their own decent houses.
City officials led by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo ‘Albee’ Benitez and Housing Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar led the groundbreaking of Yuhum village at Abada Escay in Barangay Vista Alegre on Friday, Sept. 30.
Benitez expressed his gratitude to the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) for providing the housing program.
The project which is expected to be completed next year will prioritize residents who live in coastal areas.
The first medium rise building of the Yuhum Foundation will be built for more than 5,000 informal settlers in Barangay Vista Alegre.
The local government also plans to build a housing project in Barangays 8 and Banago.
Meanwhile, the DHSUD and Victorias City Mayor Javi Benitez also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the latter’s plans to build a housing project in Barangays 6A, 11, and 13.
DHSUD also has an agreement for the planned housing program in Silay City.
The agency intends to build six million housing units within six years under the National Housing for the Filipino program.
