Omega Esports adds amateur standouts to bolster S9 lineup

Omega Esports has added some of the best talents in the amateur ranks to bolster its lineup for the MPL Philippines Season 9.

The MPL S8 third placers formally introduced its newest additions in former SV Empire and Amihan esports gold laner Jhonville “OUTPLAYED” Villar and former Origen Esports midlaner/support Jefferson “Amethyst” Santos in an announcement posted on Omega's official team page on Sunday, Jan. 9.

The two rookies will be joining an intact core of Omega which only lost Robbie “Hito” Candoy and Dian “Dian” Cruz during the off-season.

Omega still boasts the potent quintet of Joshua “Chaknu” Mangilog, Duane “Kelra” Pillas, Renz “Renzio” Cadua, Kielvj “Kielvj” Hernandez, and Patrick “E2MAX” Caidic — the same five that won Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup title under the Execration banner.

Also in the squad were Billy “Z4pnu” Alfonso, Romiere “Allidap” Padilla and Dean Christian “Raizen” Sumagui who proved to be one of the revelations for the squad during its MPL Season 8 run.

“Hey, Omega fam! We have 2 MPL Rookies that we're proud to introduce for the upcoming MPL Philippines Season 9! Let's all welcome OUTPLAYED and Amethyst,” Omega wrote in the post.

“With the new addition to the roster, we have high hopes that we can finally secure the championship title this season!,” it added.

Omega is hoping to finally overcome the hump in Season 9 after falling short last season against rival and eventual champions Blacklist International in the lower bracket finals. Its core players, still then under the banner of Execration also placed second behind Blacklist in Season 7.
