A vaulted water tank at a Water District in Pangulang Street in Barangay Bagumbayan Warehouse Facility in Bulakan exploded on Saturday, Jan. 8, discharging debris that killed an operator, injured seven individuals, and destroyed nearby houses.
Police identified the fatality as Ryan Wenceslao Mangio, 41, pump operator of the water district, and a resident of Barangay Bambang.
He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Injured were Eduardo Carpio, plumber; Ricardo Sulit, pump operator; Joselito Cristobal Esteban, 37, checker and a resident of Bagong Bayan; Jomar Cristobal Esteban, 28, driver; Jennifer Santos Esteban, 29, client account representative, a resident of Barangay Bagong Bayan; Aldana Tionloc, 93, and a household member only identified as “Regine.” The victims are now being treated in hospitals.
Initial investigation disclosed that while the employees were at the warehouse of the Bulakan Water District, the vaulted tank suddenly exploded.
Due to the strong impact, the victims sustained major injuries.
Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection said the incidents left damages to properties including the three houses near the warehouse of the Bagumbayan Vaulted Tank.
A motorcycle, tricycle, and another vehicle were also carried away by the gush of water from the tank into the river.
The cause of the incident is now being investigated. The water supply in Bulakan town has been gravely affected by the water tank explosion.
