PUP suspends classes as COVID-19 cases rise

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) has suspended synchronous and asynchronous classes in all its branches and satellite campuses from Jan. 10 to 16, citing the rising number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

"The Administration shall assess the situation by January 14, 2022 to decide whether or not to extend this period of suspension," PUP Vice President Emanuel C. De Guzman said in a memorandum dated Jan. 7.

Faculty members are also instructed to move deadlines of submission of all academic requirements and observe the easing of academic requirements due to pandemic limitations.

The suspension also covers students from Graduate School and College of Law.

Meanwhile, only vaccinated visitors will be allowed entry to the PUP premises starting Monday, Jan. 10.

"Unvaccinated visitors will not be allowed to enter the PUP premises. Unvaccinated individuals are advised to present their vaccination certificates or cards upon entry," the University said in an advisory.

"We also encourage all our stakeholders to strictly follow the minimum health and safety protocols and practice social distancing while inside the University."
