DepEd vows to continue to 'serve at our best' for Filipino learners

After receiving multiple performance awards in December, the Department of Education (DepEd) assured that it would continue its efforts for the education sector and Filipino learners.

“With the nation behind us, we shall continue to serve at our best so that our learners can ultimately reach their dreams,” DepEd said in a statement issued Saturday, Jan. 8.

DepEd also expressed gratitude to the Filipino people for “giving high approval rating” for its performance and Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones based on Pulse Asia’s Ulat ng Bayan Survey conducted last Dec. 1 to 6, 2021.

DepEd received a 76-percent overall approval rating in the said survey. It showed a seven-point increase compared to the September 2021 survey.

Likewise, Briones also enjoyed a seven-point increase in her approval rating on her performance as the DepEd Secretary.

DepEd also thanked the education stakeholders for “expressing their satisfaction with our preparations” for the limited face-to-face classes that started in November.

In the same study, DepEd said that majority of the Filipinos or 70 percent said they were “satisfied” with the agency’s efforts to reintroduce face-to-face classes amid the pandemic.

For this achievement, UNICEF awarded DepEd a five-star rating.

In December, DepEd was also hailed as the “most trusted national government agency” after receiving a 91 percent trust rating in the 2021 Philippine Trust Index (PTI) survey conducted by the EON Group.

Briones, on the other hand, also continued to receive various recognition.

Aside from being awarded the Asia CEO Award for public sector, the Institute of Plant Breeding of the University of the Philippines Los Baños also named its latest gumamela hybrid “Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Leonor Magtolis Briones” in recognition of her service to the country.

“These commendations from our fellow Filipinos reflect the commitment and determination of every DepEd teacher, non-teaching personnel, partner, and official who bravely accepted the challenge of delivering quality education amidst difficult times,” DepEd said.
