Pateros active COVID-19 cases rise to 162

Pateros, the smallest local government unit in Metro Manila, has recorded a steep increase in the number of active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

According to the Pateros municipal government, the active cases in the town have risen to 162 including 16 new cases as of Jan. 6, an increase of 99 cases or 157 percent, from 63 active cases last Jan. 4. The active case rate translates to 2,314 per 100,000 population.

From Dec. 31 to Jan. 6, Pateros’ active cases grew from 38 to 162. During the seven-day period, Pateros recorded 124 new cases from 7,992 confirmed cases on Dec. 31 to 8,116 on Jan. 6.

Of the 162 active cases, 55 are asymptomatic while 107 are mild cases. Of the total, 159 are under isolation while three are for isolation.

The office of Pateros Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce III was temporarily shut down starting on Jan. 5 after several employees tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Ponce issued Executive Order No. 1 (series of 2022) “setting and defining the rules, policies and guidelines to govern and to be implemented in the Municipality of Pateros under the General Community Quarantine Alert Level 3 and providing for restrictions on unvaccinated persons starting January 3, 2022 and for other purposes.”

Metro Manila is under Alert Level 3 from Jan. 3 to 15 imposed by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).

Ponce signed the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Resolution 22–01, passed by Metro Manila mayors, which imposed restrictions on the movements of unvaccinated persons.

Unvaccinated individuals in Pateros are prohibited from the following:

a. Indoor and out-door/al fresco dining in restaurants and other food establishments and shall likewise be prohibited from leisure or social trips to malls, hotels, event venues, sports and country clubs and similar facilities;

b. In domestic travel via public transportation by land, sea and air except for the procurement of essential goods and services such as, but not limited to, food, water, medicine, medical devices, public utilities and energy, work and medical and dental necessities, subject to the production of proof to support and justify such travel (MMC Resolution # 001, Series of 2022);

c. Access to or inside local government and barangay offices and establishments except health centers when in need of health services.
