Bongbong camp lauds Comelec for disqualifying two other Marcoses running for president

The camp of presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Friday, Jan. 7, commended the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for its decision to declare two other individuals with the same surname who filed a certificate for candidate for presidency just nuisance candidates.

Lawyer Vic Rodriguez, Marcos Jr. spokesman, said the poll body's decision to remove Tiburcio Marcos and Maria Aurora Marcos from the official list of presidential candidates "signals that democracy is still alive in our country."

He added that "as it prevails, no one shall trample on the people’s right to vote for their choice of candidate."

"We give it to the members of this august body for seeing through the schemes and machinations of certain political camps to make a mockery of the electoral process by resorting to gutter politics," he said.

With the Filipino people's right to vote that shows that "we are a free people," Rodriguez said, "our founding fathers have made this privilege a reality with their own blood, with their own lives."

"Any attempt to circumvent this divine right is indeed sacrilegious," he added.

Marcos Jr.'s spokesman asserted that elections "are won and lost on election day" so we must "adhere to that."

"Again, we praise the Comelec for heeding the voice of truth and wisdom," he said.
