Korean star Kim Seon-ho to focus only on filming 'Sad Tropics'

Korean actor Kim Seon-ho, who starred in the popular drama “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha,” will focus only on making his debut film “Sad Tropics.”

An exclusive report by a Korean media outlet stated that Kim Seon-ho, who was embroiled in a controversy involving his former girlfriend last October, is planning to spend 2022 focused on filming “Sad Tropics,” rejecting all schedules other than the film.

A source from Kim Seon-ho’s side told the media outlet that the actor will not engage in any other acting activities. It reported that all proposals for other new works are being rejected.

It is also the same for advertising proposals. Kim Seon-ho’s side is politely rejecting new advertising offers as well as renewing contracts with brands that he is currently working as an endorser.

The report also stated that proposals for overseas fan meetings are being turned down with him being quoted as saying, “I decided to focus only on movies this year."

“Sad Tropics” started filming last December and it will star Kim Seon-ho Go Ara and Kim Kang-woo.

The film, being directed by Park Hoon-jung, is about a Korean-Filipino (Kopino) boy, who has a Korean father and a Filipino mother, who dreams of becoming a boxer. He goes to Korea to find his father who abandoned him and meets bad guys. “Kopino” is a term referring to a person who has Korean and Filipino parents.

The actor who will play the Korean-Filipino boy is Kang Tae-joo who bagged the role after an audition that drew 1,980 people.

The controversy involving his former girlfriend threatened Kim Seon-ho’s career. However, succeeding revelations turned the public’s opinion in his favor.

Despite the controversy, Kim Seon-ho won the U+ IDOLLIVE Popularity Award and 2021 AAA RET Popularity Award for actor, part of the 2021 Asia Artist Awards (AAA). However, he was unable to attend the ceremony last Dec. 2.
