Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso urged millions of Black Nazarane devotees to attend online masses as there will still be no traditional “Traslacion” this year.

“Walang traslacion, walang physical mass, sarado ang simbahan. Online mass tayo (No traslacion, no physical mass, the church will be closed. There will be online mass only),” he said during a press conference on Wednesday, Jan. 5.
“Ipanalangin na lang lamang natin ang sitwasyon, ating mga mahal sa buhay, ang ating siyudad, ang ating bayan, ang ating mundo, at mga kahilingan ninyong personal, sa kalusugan, sa kabuhayan, sa ating Panginoong Diyos (Let's just pray for the situation we are in right now, our loved ones, our city, our town, our world, and your personal requests, for health, for livelihood, to God),” he added.
The Traslacion on the Feast of the Black Nazarene is supposed to be held on Friday, Jan. 9.
This is the second year the annual religious event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Nauunawan ko ang damdamin po, ang damdamin ninyo at kagustuhan na taon taon na kayo ay sumama, dalhin ang kanya kanyang replika sa Quiapo (I understand your feelings and your desire to go every year to bring your replicas to Quiapo),” he added.
“Naniniwala ako na ang Diyos, ang Poong Nazareno ay nauunawaan naman tayo bilang tao at ang ating sitwasyon.... Pagtibayin natin ang ating paniniwala sa Diyos at kausapin natin ang Diyos ng personal sa kanya kanya nating tahanan (I believe that God, the Lord Nazarene understands us as human beings and our situation.... Let us strengthen our belief in God and talk to God personally in our own homes),” the Manila mayor added.
The decision to postpone the annual religious event that draws millions of devotees was made last month after a dialogue between Fr. Douglas Badong, parochial vicar of the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, and other Quiapo Church and Manila city government officials.
