A liquor ban will be implemented in the City of Manila starting Thursday, Jan. 8, in line with the celebration of Traslacion 2022, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced on Wednesday, Jan. 5.

Domagoso issued Ordinance 5555 on Wednesday, Jan 5, which prohibits the sale of liquor and other alcoholic beverages within Quiapo during the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene starting at 6 p.m on Jan. 8 until 6 a.m on Jan. 10.
“Sa Kapistahan ng ating Poong Nazareno, wala pong inuman. Hanggat maarari, walang ibebentang mga alak. Kailangan nating ipatupad ito bilang pag iingat at paghahanda sa posibleng magsalo salo o magsama sama o inuman na mga tao. (On the Feast of our Lord Nazarene, there will be no drinking sessions. No liquors will be sold. We need to implement this as a precaution against possible social gatherings or drinking sessions),” he said during a press conference.
The traditional traslacion procession of the Black Nazarene was cancelled this year due to the threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
