Korean sci-fi drama 'The Silent Sea' rises to No. 1 on Netflix's weekly chart

The Korean sci-fi drama “The Silent Sea,” starring Gong Yoo, Bae Doona and Lee Joon, topped the weekly chart on Netflix.

Netflix released the top 10 movies and shows for the week covering the period Dec. 27 to Jan. 2.

“These lists rank titles based on weekly hours viewed: the total number of hours that our members around the world watched each title from Monday to Sunday of the previous week,” according to Netflix.

“The Silent Sea” was released on Dec. 24 and it debuted at No. 3 on the Netflix chart with 22.23 million hours viewed for the period Dec. 20 to 26.

In the latest top 10 non-English shows chart, “The Silent Sea” is No. 1 with 47.83 million hours viewed, an increase of 25.6 million hours viewed from last week.

Placing second is the “The Queen of Flow: Season 2” with 29.53 million hours viewed followed by “Money Heist: Part 5” with 26.31 million hours viewed, “Daughter From Another Mother: Season 2” with 24 million hours viewed and “Café con aroma de mujer: Season 1” with 23.23 million hours viewed.

“Squid Game,” the global Korean hit series, is No. 6 with 18.11 million hours viewed and has been in the top 10 on the Netflix chart for 16 weeks.

According to Netflix, “The Silent Sea” is in the top 10 shows in 77 countries for the current chart period. The Korean series is No. 1 in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.

2. The Queen of Flow: Season 2 - 29,530,000

3. Money Heist: Part 5 - 26,310,000

4. Daughter From Another Mother: Season 2 - 24,000,000

5. Café con aroma de mujer: Season 1 - 23,230,000

6. Squid Game: Season 1- 18,110,000

7. The Girl from Oslo: Season 1 - 17,460,000

8. Single’s Inferno: Season 1 - 17,150,000

9. Our Beloved Summer: Season 1 - 13,840,000

10. The Queen of Flow: Season 1 - 11,280,000
