Helpline needed to rescue street kids amid COVID-19 — Bongbong

Presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is pushing for the establishment of a helpline to rescue street kids and protect them against COVID-19.

Marcos Jr. said Wednesday, Jan. 5 it is important to rescue kids from the streets because they are the ones susceptible to catching the disease.

"Nitong nakalipas na Pasko, kapansin-pansin ang pagdami ng mga kababayan nating namamalimos sa kalsada. Talagang nakapag-aalala dahil mabilis ang pagtaas ng bilang ng COVID cases natin (Last Christmas, I noticed that more children are now begging on the streets. It's really alarming because of the rapid increase in our COVID-19 cases)," he said in a statement.

Therefore, according to Marcos, a "helpline," wherein concerned citizens may inform authorities about the presence of children in need, must be established.

"Magiging mabilis ang aksyon dito kasi kahit sinong netizen o kababayan natin ay puwede silang kunan sa cellphone (The action will be swift because everyone can report to authorities by taking pictures)," Marcos said.

"Ipo-post nila ito sa itatayong 'helpline online' o kaya ibibigay ang eksaktong lokasyon at doon ay reresponde agad ang LGU, o di kaya pulisya at nakasasakop na barangay para sagipin sila (They will post in on helpline online or they will reach out to authorities to report about the exact location of the kids to be immediately rescued)," he added.

Marcos said a close coordination among members of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Philippine National Police (PNP) and the local government units is needed to ensure the success of the program.
