Typhoon 'Odette': 78 cities, municipalities still without electricity
Thousands of Filipinos welcomed the year 2022 in the dark as a total of 78 cities and municipalities still have no electricity nearly three weeks since typhoon “Odette” damaged electric posts and transmission lines in Visayas and Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said that 206 out of the 284 areas that experienced power outage or interruption during the onslaught of Odette have already restored their electricity.
This means that 78 areas have got no access to power supply including Mimaropa (Region 4B), Western Visayas (Region 6), Central Visayas (Region 7), and Caraga (Region 13).
Power outage
In Caraga, a total of 41 areas still have no power supply. These were in Surigao del Sur (19 areas), Butuan City (10), Agusan del Norte (6), and Dinagat Islands (6).
In Central Visayas, there were 18 areas with no power supply and these are all located in Southern Leyte.
These include the towns and cities of Anahawan, Bontoc, Hinunangan, Hinundayan, Libagon, Liloan, Limasawa, Maasin, Macrohon, Malitbog, Padre Burgos, Pintuyan, Saint Bernard, San Francisco, San Juan (Cabalian), San Ricardo, Silago, and Tomas Oppus.
In Mimaropa, a total of 12 areas have completely no access to power supply namely Palawan (8) and Occidental Mindoro (1).
Three more areas in Palawan have only partial restoration of electricity. These were in El Nido where 36.36 percent of households have power supply; Magsaysay with 90 percent of power supply fully functional; and Taytay with 7.14 percent of supply already restored.
Meanwhile, six areas in Western Visayas have no power supply which are all located in Antique. These were the towns of San Remigio, Patnongon, Belison, Barbaza, Tobias Fornier (Dao), and Libertad.
Power supply in all the affected areas is expected to be fully restored by February 2022, according to the Department of Energy.
