PNP chief Dionardo Carlos tests positive for coronavirus

Gen. Dionardo Carlos, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has tested positive for the coronavirus, he confirmed on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Carlos said that aside from him, the driver of his service van and a police aide also tested positive based on the swab test result which he himself ordered on Sunday, Jan. 2, when some of the staff of his official residence at Camp Crame in Quezon City experienced fever.

"This is to confirm that I, Police General Dionardo B Carlos, tested positive for COVID-19 virus," he said in a message to reporters.

He said the virus that hit him is suspected to be an omicron variant.

"I experienced fever, chills and body sweats Sunday evening but come Monday 03Jan22, only lower back pain remains," said Carlos.

As of Tuesday morning, he said his body temperature was at 37.1 °C while his blood pressure is normal. He said he is taking his medication.

Carlos said he already informed President Duterte about the incident, as well as Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.

"I was advised to rest. I will consider this time I am under quarantine that Im just taking my much needed Christmas and New Year's break," said Carlos.
