Chris Ross moves forward after death of father, to suit up for SMB soon

Chris Ross is expected to be back in action for the San Miguel Beermen once the PBA can continue its season-ending Governors’ Cup which is on pause due to the COVID-19 surge.

The multi-time Defensive Player of the Year arrived Monday, Jan. 3 and is currently under quarantine after spending an extended period in the United States due to the sudden passing of his father.

William Ross died last Nov. 18 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 69. An obituary said the elder Ross, married 41 years to his wife Virginia who is a Filipina, served in the United States Air Force and the Customs and Border Protection.

“2021 was as devastating as they come. It started off bad and I was in a deep hole mentally and I dug myself out then it ended with the most difficult three months of my life!” Ross said on his Instagram account.

While he continues to mourn, Ross said that the best way to pay tribute to his dad is to push through.

“We lost my pops unexpectedly in November before the holidays and it absolutely crushed me and my family. I’ve shed tears EVERY SINGLE DAY since we lost him including right now! I took time off from basketball to be around family but with the turn of the new year I’m in the process of pulling myself out of that dark hole.

“My pops would want nothing less. So here is to 2022! I’m ready, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Love and miss you pops. Your legacy will live on forever I promise you,” Ross concluded.

Ross missed the first five games of the Governors’ Cup which saw San Miguel win three in a row following a 0-2 start.

But Ross may have to wait longer before he can don the familiar No. 6 jersey if the PBA is postponed further due to a spike in COVID cases at the start of the new year.
