Gen. Dionardo Carlos, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said on Monday, Jan, 31 that were was already a request for the police to look into the alleged assassination attempt on presidential aspirant Bongbong Marcos.
"There was someone who texted me. So I have already the number and what we would do is to coordinate with the person who raised this particular concern," said Carlos in a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
He was referring to the confirmation of the Department of Justice about the alleged assassination attempt on Marcos that was uncovered on Tiktok--a claim that the DOJ said it is seriously looking at.
The assassination attempt claim went viral in the social media, with netizens questioning the credibility of the allegation.
Carlos, however, assured that they will validate the information they received as part of the mandate of the PNP to ensure a peaceful conduct of elections.
"We are open because our commitment is to secure everyone and our commitment is for a peaceful election. If there is such a report, we will work it, we will task anything that we are receiving. These are all being verified automatically," he said.
But Carlos also assured the public that he will not allow the PNP to be used by some politicians.
"That is what we want in this election," said Carlos when asked of the commitment for the PNP to be isolated or being used by some politicians.
"The PNP will be professional in the performance of its duties to attain a peaceful election," he added.
Part of this goal, according to him, is the aggressive campaign against loose firearms and private armed groups.
