The new set of officers of the Philippine Movie Press Club for 2022 poses after their successful election held at the PMPC headquarters in Quezon City last Jan. 28.

The Philippine Movie Press Club, Inc. (PMPC) successfully held its election of officers for 2022 with strict health and safety protocols at the PMPC headquarters in Quezon City last Jan. 28.

PMPC is a group of professional and active showbiz writers, editors of newspapers and tabloids in the country, online influencers and vloggers, and radio/TV/online reporters who cover the local entertainment industry.

For years, this non-profit organization functions as an award-giving body recognizing deserving members of the local entertainment industry through the PMPC Star Awards for Movies, PMPC Star Awards for Television, and the PMPC Star Awards for Music.

The awards ceremonies were done virtually, for the first time in 2021 under the helm of then President Roldan Castro due to physical and movement restrictions brought about by the pandemic. The counting of ballots was also done virtually, with Past Presidents Rommel Gonzales and Melba Llanera as election canvassers.

After the counting, elected officers gathered together for a quick photo shoot. The new set of PMPC officers for 2022: Fernan de Guzman (president), Rodel Fernando (vice president), Mell Navarro (secretary), Mildred Bacud (assistant secretary), Lourdes Fabian (treasurer), Boy Romero (assistant treasurer), John Fontanilla (auditor), Francis Simeon at Leony Garcia (public relations officers). Board of directors: Sandy Mariano, Joe Barrameda, Eric Borromeo, Jimi Escala, Rommel Placente and Roldan Castro.

De Guzman, who currently hosts Wow, It's Showbiz at Infinite Radio 92.1 FM, said he will continue to explore and make the virtual PMPC events better should there would still be prohibition for physical gatherings this year.

A four-time PMPC president (2006-07, 2013-14, 2016-17 and now 2022), De Guzman also urged officers and members to cooperate and unite for the success of the club and for the benefit of its members.

Popularly known in showbiz circle as Ms. F, De Guzman is also a regular Saksi (tabloid) entertainment columnist. He said he envisions the PMPC as the strongest and most credible award-giving body in the entertainment industry in spite of the challenging time. "Always, our goal is to keep the organization, the PMPC, active in the industry. And of course to continue to hold the annual awards night for movie, TV and music come what may. Lastly, we would like to provide assistance to our members in need through possible fund-raising projects this year."

The oath-taking ceremony of the new PMPC officers will be held soon.
