
Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, also the chairman of the Metro Manila Council (MMC), said the economy can now slowly recover under Alert Level 2 as the operational capacity of businesses in the National Capital Region increases from 30 to 50 percent.
Olivarez said businesses with a safety seal will have an additional 10 percent capacity to operate under the new alert level.
He said the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases announced on Sunday (Jan. 30) the deescalation of NCR to Alert Level 2 starting Feb. 1 to 15 due to the steady decline in the number of COVID-19 cases.
Olivarez said the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) reported that the reproduction rate of COVID-19 in the city is already one percent.
He said the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the city is now 768 equivalent to 1.58 percent and and a recovery rate of 96.95 percent, bringing the total number of recoveries to 47,215.
He said Metro Manila mayors are working hard to contain the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 through sustained vaccination which has been scientifically proven to be the best tool to prevent an outbreak.
The mayor said the city government is utilizing all the 16 barangays in the city as vaccination sites to make it more accessible to residents.
