Bong Go seeks immediate passage of Marawi Compensation bill

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go on Monday renewed his push for the immediate passage of Senate Bill No. 2420, or the proposed Marawi Siege Victims Compensation Act which is expected to fast track the rehabilitation and recovery of the city and its people.

The Senate approved the measure on second reading last week, January 26, Senate Bill No. 2420 which seeks to provide compensation and reparation to the internally-displaced persons (IDP), whose houses or properties were destroyed a sa result of the local conflict between the military and terrorists groups in Marawi City.

“I thank my colleagues for supporting the Marawi Compensaiton bill. Many of our brothers and sisters there have yet to rise from the harrowing ordeal that’s why this measure would help them recover effectively,” Go said in a statement.

“Maybe this is already long overdue but we are trying our best to pass this for our people in Marawi,” he further said.

Go, a member of the Senate Special Committee on Marawi Rehabilitation, reassured the people of Marawi that the government will continue to exert great efforts in sustaining a long-lasting peace and development in the country.

“The government’s efforts in achieving sustainable peace and development across the country must be continuously pursued,” he added.

Likewise, Go appealed for a continued cooperation among community members, saying it is important to be consistent in the efforts to help Marawi City recover especially during this pandemic.
