Bicol, N. Samar warned of flash floods, landslides due to frontal system – PAGASA

The frontal system or the convergence of warm and cold winds from the northeast and southeast is expected to bring cloudy skies and rain showers in the Bicol region and northern Samar in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Jan. 31.

“Ang frontal system ay magdudulot ng maulap na kalangitan, kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at pagkidlat ngayong gabi sa Bicol region ganon din sa bandang northern Samar. Pinapayuhan ang mga kababayan natin na maging alerto sa posibleng pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa (The frontal system will bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and lightning tonight, Jan. 31, in the Bicol region and northern Samar. The public is advised to be alert against possible floods and landslides),” said PAGASA weather specialist Chris Perez in a public weather forecast.

According to PAGASA, flash floods and landslides may occur during moderate to at times heavy rain showers due to the frontal system.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” may bring cloudy to partly cloudy skies with light or isolated rains in Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, Metro Manila, and the rest of Luzon.

The State weather bureau likewise said that the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

“Wala tayong inaasahang bagyo na mabubuo sa loob ng ating area of responsibility or maging dito sa may bandang labas ng area of responsibility (No weather disturbance is expected to develop inside and outside the Philippine area of responsibility),” Perez added.
