“Maaaring magtagal ang La Niña hanggang sa April 2022 at pagsapit ng Mayo ay maaari na ring bumalik sa neutral conditions. Ibig sabihin po ay sa susunod na tatlong buwan ay posible pa ring makaranas ang majority ng ating bansa ng higit sa normal na dami ng pag-ulan (La Niña may last until April 2022 and by May it may return to neutral conditions. This means that in the next three months it is still possible for the majority of the parts of our country to experience above normal rainfall),” said PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja in a public weather forecast.

La Niña is a weather phenomenon characterized by heavy rainfall. Neutral condition, on the other hand, means that there is neither La Niña nor El Niño.

Estareja said that in February, above normal rainfall is expected in parts of Mindanao and eastern Visayas while Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan may experience below normal and way below normal rainfall conditions.

“As early as now ay pinapayuhan natin ang ating mga kababayan na magtipid ng tubig lalo na’t affected din ang ating mga dams dito sa Ambuklao, Pantabangan, and Angat (As early as now we are advising the public to save water especially since our dams here in Ambuklao, Pantabangan, and Angat are also affected),” he added.

Based on the State weather bureau’s tropical cyclone forecast, one weather disturbance may develop and affect the country in February.
