An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 hits waters off Zambales around 8:17 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The epicenter of the quake was traced 169 kilometers (km) northwest of Palauig, Zambales. It was tectonic in origin, which means that it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
Meanwhile, in its bulletin issued at 8:31 a.m., Phiovolcs said that aftershocks are likely to occur.
