San Juan opens COVID-19 vaccine registration for children 5-11 years-old
The San Juan City local government announced on Sunday, Jan. 2, that it is opening the COVID-19 vaccination registration for children aged 5-11 years old.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora made the announcement in a Viber message and a Facebook post. He said the decision was made due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the city and the impending approval by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases of the rules allowing children 5-11 years old to get vaccinated against the virus.
“They have already rolled out the vaccination in other countries and we are hopeful that the IATF and DOH (Department of Health) will soon come up with its protocols, and by the time that they give the go signal, we want to be ready to roll out our vaccination right away,” Zamora said.
“We are being proactive to protect the children especially since they are allowed to go out in public and face-to-face classes are slowly being implemented," he added.
Those who wish to get their children vaccinated may register at the link: (http://bit.ly/39Bi7ri), or scan the QR code found on his official Facebook page.
Zamora will also get his booster shot at the FilOil Flying V Center, the city's primary vaccination hub. He got his second dose of the vaccine last May and is already due for a booster shot.
“I got my second dose of vaccine more than six months ago already so I will be getting my booster shot to protect myself, my family and loved ones, my constituents and the people around me from COVID-19,” Zamora said.
The mayor also called on his constituents who have yet to get their booster shots to register in the city's vaccine registration portal.
“To my beloved San Juanenos, if you got your second dose more than three months ago, I urge you to get your booster shots already because the protection your received from your initial doses has started to wane,” he said.
Currently, the city is giving booster shots to all eligible population from all categories, whether residents or non-residents of San Juan City.
