Metro mayors agree to restrict movements of unvaccinated persons

Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi said Metro Manila mayors have agreed to implement rules that will restrict the movements of unvaccinated persons amid the steep increase in new COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR).

During the flag ceremony at the Muntinlupa City hall quadrangle on Monday, Jan. 3, Fresnedi said Metro Manila mayors held a meeting on Jan. 2 and passed a resolution restricting the movement of unvaccinated individuals.

“Under the resolution that we passed, restrictions are included. If you are unvaccinated, you cannot go out of your residence except for essentials like buying food, buying medicine or going to the doctor and other essential needs,” said Fresnedi.

He said Metro Manila mayors also agreed to enhance vaccination in their areas. Fresnedi said the plea of the national government and the Department of Health is for people to get vaccinated.

Fresnedi said among the Metro Manila mayors, two already tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19). They are Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano and Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco.

“If the vaccinated get infected, how much more for the unvaccinated. Based on records, more than 90 percent of those in the ICU who are severe and critical are unvaccinated. If we love our family, if we love other people, please get vaccinated,” said the mayor.

Chairman Benhur Abalos of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Jan. 3 that Metro Manila mayors agreed that unvaccinated individuals should stay at home except when accessing essential needs.

As of Jan. 2, Muntinlupa has 152 active COVID-19 cases, an increase from 131 the previous day, and 72 on Dec. 31.
