Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said to get infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is part of being a public servant.
Rubiano tested positive for COVID-19 for the third time on Jan. 1 after suffering from sore throat.
She admitted that doctors attending to her suspected that the Omicron variant must have infected her as she is fully vaccinated and boosted.
The mayor said the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) was ordered to conduct mass testing and contact tracing because of the sudden increase in COVID-19 cases in the city.
Rubiano said that before Christmas, the city government recorded single cases of COVID-19 for eight straight days. But this suddenly increased after Christmas and New Year.
She said the city has recorded a total of 67 new cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 214.
Rubiano said she already met with Pasay City police chief, Col. Cesar Paday-os and the chairmen of the 201 baangays in the city to conduct intensive patrol all over the city and arrest those who are violating the local health protocols being implemented by the city government, particularly the EMI Habit (Ensure to always wash your hands, Mask is a must, and Implement physical distancing).
