An earthquake with a magnitude measuring 3.0 hit Laguna around 7:09 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The epicenter of the quake was traced two kilometers (km) southeast of Santa Rosa, Laguna. It was tectonic in origin, which means that it was caused by the movement of an active fault in the area.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was “weak” at Intensity III in Alaminos, Sto. Tomas and San Pablo and Los Baños in Laguna.
Meanwhile, it was “slightly felt” at Intensity II in Calamba, Laguna and Talisay, Batangas.
The agency’s instruments likewise recorded the quake at Intensity III in Muntinlupa City, Intensity II in Carmona, Cavite and Makati City, while it was recorded at Intensity I in Tagaytay City, Bacoor City, and Las Piñas City.
Phivolcs said no aftershocks and damage are expected following this quake. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
