Police are investigating the grenade-throwing incidents at the Manila Arena, a known “sabong” (cockfighting) joint, on New Panaderos Street in Sta. Ana, Manila, which occurred on Thursday, Jan. 27 and Friday, Jan. 28.

According to the Manila Police District (MPD), two men riding a motorcycle were spotted by a security guard throwing a grenade at the main entrance and parking lot of the Manila Arena on Jan. 27.
The grenade did not explode on impact. Responding members of the MPD Explosive Ordnance Unit (EOD) safely detonated the explosive.
On Friday, Jan. 28, at around 5 p.m., another grenade was again thrown at the arena’s entrance. The security guard on duty found the grenade without pin after all the vehicles had left area.
The grenade also failed to explode.
The MPD-EOD cordoned off the arena and conducted a controlled detonation onsite.

The MPD is currently investigating the incidents.
