Robredo says 'investments will increase under an honest, capable government'

Aspiring president Vice President Leni Robredo stressed that investments will only dramatically rise if the country has a "strong and stable political and economic climate."

In her speech during the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines, Inc. (SEIPI) Q1 General Membership Meeting & Partner of the Industry Awards 2022 on Thursday, Jan. 27, Robredo said that the first step to revive the country's industries is to restore trust in government.

"Investments will only dramatically rise and industries will only grow if we have a strong and stable political and economic climate, and if we have the necessary infrastructure and logistics for them to thrive," Robredo said, stressing that more investments would mean more jobs that could uplift more lives.

The Vice President reiterated that policies must be dependable, consistent, and predictable.

She added that rules for businesses must not change in the middle of the game and government must earn that trust by professionalizing its bureaucracy and institutionalizing transparency and accountability.

"Only then can we begin the work to unlock the energies of our economy. With an honest government at the helm, the work ahead becomes easier— whether in strengthening the implementation of existing laws like the Ease of Doing Business Act, reviewing policies and legislation that have served as roadblocks for businesses to thrive, establishing incentives to attract business, or working to lower energy and transport costs," Robredo said.

"With an honest government, we can unleash the immense potential of the industry— and here, the opportunities abound," she added.

Robredo's five-point employment plan include the goal to bring back trust in government and part of it is to implement measures that will curb corruption in every government agency and bureau and eliminate unfair business practices.

In her speech, she also affirmed her commitment to the business community that her government, if elected, "will always remain a strong and steady partner of the industry."
