Onic PH sweeps valiant Origen, meets RSG PH in next round

Onic Philippines swept a valiant Origen Esports side, 2-0, to advance to the second round of the upper bracket playoffs in Phase 2 of the Sibol MLBB National Team Selection on Thursday, Jan. 27.

The M3 World Championship runner-up wasted no time in asserting its dominance in the first game before thoroughly breaking the spirits of Origen in the second round to set up a date with RSG Philippines in the next round.

Game 1 was total stomp for Onic PH with Jaylord “Hatred” Gonzales reprising his jungler role in place of star player Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol with a near-perfect 7-1-4 performance on the Lancelot in the series opener.

The MPL Philippines Season 8 second placers showed why it is one of the heavy favorites in the tournament as its quintet composed of MPL veterans Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy, Gerald “Dlarskie” Trinchera, Marky “Markyyy” Capacio and Ian “Beemo” Sergio proved to be too much for the amateur squad.

Onic dealt the Adrian “Toshi” Bacallo-led Origen a 15-3 beatdown in the series opener.

Origen, though, showed better fight in the second game, holding its own against Onic PH using its surprise jungler Carmilla pick. At one point, Choko on the Carmilla even scored a Maniac to stun the MPL powerhouse.

However, that hardly rattled Onic as it went back to its patented banana-split strategy to regain full control of the match. Dlarskie led Onic with an immaculate 5-0-5 showing on the Esmeralda while Hatred unloaded a 5-2-10 KDA to shake off the gritty Origen side, 16-11.
