Bongbong camp on Leni's 'liar' remark: 'We will not engage in hateful campaigning'

The camp of presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Thursday, Jan. 27, refused to dwell on Vice President Leni Robredo's remark that he is a "liar" and "did not show up during difficult times."

Lawyer Vic Rodriguez, Marcos Jr.'s spokesman, instead said Marcos Jr. "does notâ€‹ and will not engage in negative and hateful campaigning."

"What presidential aspirant Bongbong Marcos is offering to the Filipino people is his unifying brand of leadership," added Rodriguez in a statement.

Robredo made the remark when asked why people should not vote for Marcos Jr. during her presidential interview with TV host Boy Abunda aired Wednesday night.

"Number 1, sinungaling (he's a liar). Pangalawa, in the difficult moments, di sya nagpapakita (he did not show up)," she said.

In a similar type of interview aired Tuesday night, Marcos Jr. was also asked the same question. He answered: "I am very hesitant to answer that, because I do not believe and I do not indulge in negative campaigning."

"But I will go this far, and I will say that I believe that none of the other candidates have yet come to the conclusion that unity is needed, and that is how we can rise from the crisis brought by the pandemic," he added in Filipino.
