Muntinlupa's active, new COVID-19 cases decrease

The total number of active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Muntinlupa has dropped by more than 1,700 in a single day while new cases decreased by more than 300.

According to data from the Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO), the active cases in Muntinlupa totaled 3,237 on Jan. 25, a decrease of 1,745 cases or 35 percent from 4,982 on Jan. 24.

The total active cases in Muntinlupa are out of 36,947 confirmed cases, 33,117 recoveries and 593 deaths.

The CHO also recorded 135 cases on Jan. 25, a drop by 332 cases or 71 percent from 467 new cases the previous day.

Muntinlupa also recorded 1,879 patients who have recovered from COVID-19 from 31,238 on Jan. 24 to 33,117 on Jan. 25. This is an increase of 1,747 recovered patients from 132 tallied from Jan. 23 to 24.

Dr. Guido David of OCTA Research released the number of new cases per local government unit (LGU) in the National Capital Region (NCR).

It showed Muntinlupa adding 134 new cases on Jan. 25, placing ninth among the 17 LGUs in the NCR. Quezon City has the highest with 648 new cases while Pateros, the smallest LGU in NCR, has the lowest with five.

In the last seven days from Jan. 19 to 25, Muntinlupa recorded 2,692 new cases from 34,255 to 36,947 or an average of 385 new cases per day.

The Muntinlupa City government urged the public to strictly follow health protocols including wearing of face masks, physical distancing and frequent handwashing.

The Department of Health (DOH) had earlier said there was already a community transmission of the highly contagious Omicron variant in the NCR.

On Jan. 25, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the Omicron variant is now predominant in the NCR and other areas in the country.

From just 1.3 percent of the samples collected in November, the Omicron variant now comprised 98.9 percent of samples in January.
