LPA to leave PH area of responsibility Thursday or Friday -- PAGASA

A low pressure area (LPA) may continue to bring rains until its exit from the country's area of responsibility by Thursday or Friday, Jan. 27 or 28, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Jan. 26.

PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the LPA was already over Tayasan, Negros Oriental at around 3 a.m.

After crossing the Visayas, the LPA is expected to traverse Palawan on its way to the West Philippine Sea, Aurelio said.

Due to the LPA and shear line, the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bicol region, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, and Quezon will have cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA advised the public to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to the occurrence of moderate to at times heavy rains.

Aurelio noted that the weather disturbance may continue to move westward and will be outside the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday or Friday.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," may bring cloudy skies and rains over Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora.

"Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains" may also occur in these areas, PAGASA said.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated light amihan rains.

For the rest of Mindanao, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers may persist due to localized thunderstorms.
