Korean group donates 20 water filters to 'Odette'-devastated areas

The United Korean Community Association (UKCA) has donated 20 units of water filter system that would be used to alleviate the living condition of people devastated by typhoon "Odette" especially in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Rear Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan, commander of the Task Force Kalinga of the Philippine Coast Guard, said the water filter system will provide potable drinking water in barangays where the water supply was affected due to the effects of the "Odette".

Gavan said the donations were accommodated as cargoes on sweeper flights en route Northeastern Mindanao, Palawan, Central Visayas, Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas through the Task Group Airport One-Stop-Shop, Office for Transportation Security (OTS), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Philippine Airlines.

"We are humbled by the generosity of our local airlines to ensure the safe and swift delivery of critical supplies to our recovering kababayans," said Gavan.

Meanwhile, the PCG said it has already transported a total of 1,737.4 tons of relief goods as of Jan. 26.

In Bohol, Governor Art Yap commended the PCG District Central Visayas led by Coast Guard Commodore Agapito B. Bibat for providing assistance in the recovery and rehabilitation of 280,000 families in the province.

"If people say that we have done a lot for our people, I would say that is because of the support that you, Commodore Bibat, and the Philippine Coast Guard have given to the Provincial Government of Bohol," said Yap.

"Please stay by our side as we complete this daunting task of recovery for 280,000 critically affected families," he added.

In Siargao Island, personnel of the PCG District Central Visayas assisted in transporting 166 gallons of purified drinking water donated by the PCGA 201st Squadron from Cebu.

The said donations were loaded on board a commercial vessel that arrived in Siargao Island last Saturday.
