'Public officials are duty bound to make their SALN public' --- Diokno
Senatorial candidate and human rights lawyer Jose Manuel "Chel" Diokno stressed on Tuesday, Jan. 25, that public officials and employees are duty bound to make their statement of assets and liabilities and net worth (SALN) public to prevent them from amassing ill-gotten wealth.

Diokno issued the pronouncement after presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. declared that he has no plans of making his SALN public "if the purpose is going to be a political attack."
“The SALN Law (RA 6713) imposes an obligation on public officers to make their SALN public, to make it hard for them to engage in graft and corruption,” Diokno said.
“Marcos Jr. should read the law and obey it. If he has nothing to hide, why does he not want to reveal to the public his assets, liabilities and net worth?” he added.

As part of his justice platform, Diokno underscored the need to strengthen the right of every citizen to access the SALN of public officials, adding that the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (RA 3019) should also be upgraded.
Diokno said he also wants to see a drastic improvement in the country’s conviction rate to deter corruption and criminality.
“Dapat magtulungan ang mga prosecutor at mga pulis sa pagtugis sa mga tiwali at mga kriminal upang matiyak na sila’y mapapanagot sa kanilang ginawa (The police and prosecutors should help each other to go after corrupt and criminals to ensure that they are held responsible for what they did),” Diokno said.
