LPA in Mindanao brings rains over parts of Palawan, VisMin

Light to heavy rains are expected to continue to affect several areas in Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao due to the prevalence of a low pressure area (LPA), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 11 a.m. weather advisory on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
As of 10 a.m., PAGASA said the LPA was already in the vicinity of Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
"This weather disturbance still has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 to 48 hours," it said in its advisory.
However, in the next 24 hours, the LPA will likely bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Sorsogon, Masbate, Cagayancillo Islands, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the entire Visayas region.
"Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall," PAGASA warned.
The State weather bureau advised the public and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices concerned to "take all necessary measures to protect life and property."
"PAGASA Regional Services Divisions may issue local heavy rainfall warnings, rainfall/thunderstorm advisories, and other severe weather information specific to their areas of responsibility as appropriate," it added.
Meanwhile, a fresh surge of the northeast monsoon or amihan will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
